Army Of Terracotta Warriors... Some 2,000 years ago, the emperor of the Tang Dynasty wanted an army to protect him in the afterlife - so, he built one. The emperor had an entire army of life-size terracotta soldiers built, and then buried. It was discovered in 1974. Another (very nearby) site was found in 1976, and a few more pieces were found in 1980. There are roughly 6,000 life-size Terracotta Warriors in three burial pits, and it believed that there may be many more yet undiscovered.

The Chinese built what looks like an airplane hanger over each pit to protect it from the elements, and those hangers serve as living museums. As you will see, excavation work is still in progress.

Terracotta Warriors - Pit one

The comedy in this photo is what ISN'T in this photo. What you don't see is the sign that says taking pictures is not allowed. Well if the flash of light coming from my camera wasn't a dead giveaway...

You can still see bricks from a house that used to sit only inches above where these Terracotta Warriors were buried. Think about the guy who's house was directly on TOP of it all. Creepy. It is also worth noting that although the Terracotta Warriors were "discovered" in 1974, it is believed that the locals were aware of their existence for quite some time.
