...POTOSI

Another "World's Highest" - the city of Potosi is known as the worlds highest city. Potosi is an old mining town - and in that mountain are very old very creepy mines! At one time, this was the largest and wealthiest city in all of Latin America due to the massive amounts of silver being extracted from the mountian. The mines are hundreds of years old & they are mostly for extracting Tin today. I toured one of the mines in 1989 & I remember seeing a small spot on my jeans afterwards. The next day the spot turned very green and after a wash or two it became a hole - probably from some kind of acid dripping somewhere in there.

Potosi is a very charming colonial town that hasn't changed much over the last 100 years or so... If memory serves me - inside the wooden door on the lower-right hand side of the picture below is a restaraunt where an old man sent a beer to my table simply because I was there... a gringo in his town.

Those narrow streets twist and turn in every direction... quite charming

And this would be the railroad station. Frankly, it's easier to take a truck depending on where you're headed. Trust me - I've done both.

Speaking of going by truck - take a look at the next page of pictures.
